Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, and Colombia’s Maria Angela Holguin, agreed on Wednesday here to commit to increase the potential of bilateral ties in several sectors.

“We are confident that her visit will boost satisfactory bilateral relations to move forward in a promising potential in all areas: economic, trade, tourism, investment, scientific exchange, culture and sport”, said Rodriguez Parrilla during the official reception. He added that the strengthening of bilateral links between Havana and Bogota is favored by “deep, historic and cultural affinities”.

Holguin expressed gratitude for the invitation to visit Cuba, which she considered the continuity of previous high-level exchanges.

It demonstrates the desire of President Juan Manuel Santos to continue strengthening ties, which we translate into projects and specific issues, she said.

The Cuban and Colombian foreign ministers also agreed on the approach that provides opportunities to the creation of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean (CELAC) in Venezuela in 2011.

Rodriguez Parrilla said the CELAC creates a favorable situation for our people to strengthen their mutual ties and move forward together towards development and progress, while Holguin described the bloc of 33 countries as the space for open and transparent dialogue.

During the official reception at the headquarters of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Rodriguez Parrilla welcomed Colombia’s traditional support in the United Nations for resolutions presented by Cuba demanding an end to the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by United States for half a century now.
