Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates proposed the creation of an international entity to oversee the development of artificial intelligence (AI), while warning that the imminent transition into this new era will be “one of the most turbulent periods in human history.”
“The top priority is a monumental task: to create a national and international framework to address artificial intelligence,” Gates wrote in a column published on his personal blog, where he criticized that countries and current institutions are not adequately preparing for this technological challenge.
According to the philanthropist, none of the existing institutions was designed to manage a technology that expands so rapidly. For this reason, he proposes creating an international organization inspired by nuclear weapons inspection systems, aviation regulations, and agreements to protect the ozone layer.
