The president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, Alberto Puig, confirmed that teams from all the provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, including members of the elite team, whose technicians will evaluate possible moves.
Puig highlighted the work of the Inder management in that province and the support of its authorities, in order to guarantee a quality event. He recalled that this event will become the opening of an Olympic season of high responsibility in his sport.
He said that the fight will have special significance for the aspirants to fight in the pre-Olympic tournament in early March in Italy, where Cuba will seek the four men’s quotas that remain after winning three in the last Pan American Games in Chile.
The Olympic tickets in the Chilean capital were obtained with the gold medals of Arlen Lopez (80 kg) and Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kg), and the silver medal of Saidel Horta (57 kg). The remaining places will be disputed in 51, 63.5, 71, 80 and +92 kilograms.
