This report has the only antecedent of the 1 293 million cubic meters received by the reservoir during the heavy rains event of May, 2012

Heavy rains and runoffs occurred in Sancti Spiritus left a tangible mark on the Zaza reservoir, which at 2:00 a.m. this morning was reported with 1 174, 000 000m³ of water received. This record is considered as the second highest in the history of Cuba’s largest dam.

Most Rainy May Ever in Sancti Spiritus

This report has the only antecedent of the 1 293 million cubic meters that the reservoir received during the heavy rains event of May, 2012.

According to Yusliadis Lorenzo Coca, vice-delegate of the Hydraulic Resources Office in the territory, from Sunday midday until Tuesday morning, 351 million meters cubic of water had been released from the reservoir. This operation made it possible to decrease the volume of water by 9.00 a.m., yet it was still about 120 percent of the expected fill for hydrological precaution.

In 2012, Zaza Dam stocks went up by over 1 060, 000 000m³ of water, which allows to evaluate the great storage reported this morning.
