During the meeting, the two leaders recalled the historic ties of friendship shared by the peoples and governments of Cuba and Angola

Yesterday afternoon, September 26, in Luanda, Angolan President Joao Lourenço received First Vice President Miguel Díaz-Canel, who participated in the new leader’s inauguration ceremonies at the head of a Cuban delegation.

During the meeting, the two leaders recalled the historic ties of friendship shared by the peoples and governments of Cuba and Angola, reaffirming their intention of expanding political, economic, and cooperative relations. Díaz-Canel conveyed greetings and congratulations from Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, and thanked Angola for the position the country has taken in support of lifting the economic, commercial, financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

For his part, the Angolan President thanked Cuba for attending and sent his greetings to Raúl.

Accompanying President Lourenço were Foreign Minister Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti, and other officials.

On the Cuban side, also participating were Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita González Fraga, and the country’s ambassador in Angola, Gisela Beatriz García Rivera.
