The great final of the 52nd Cuban Baseball National Season kicked off Tuesday night with Villa Clara’s victory 4×0 vs. Matanzas in the Victoria de Giron Stadium.

In  stands jam-packed with Crocodiles fans, Freddy Asiel Alvarez, the ace of the visiting team, starred in Matanzas by setting a new record in Cuban postseasons.  The Orangemen starter has thrown 33 scoreless innings exceeding former’s 29 chapters of giant Pedro Luis Lazo.

Make no mistake, Alvarez has been the key to his team getting into finals. He has four of its five wins and has been a whipper for the squads involved in playoffs. Cienfuegos suffered it and Matanzas got the first taste yesterday.

Local starter Alain Dela set a duel with Villa Clara’s until the 5th, when the intruders took the lead thanks to Sarduy’s sacrifly, and a 2 RBIs-single by Yordan Manduley with the bases loaded.

Ariel Borrero brought the 4th run with a solo homer in the 6th chapter while Jonder Martinez kept the shutout as he closed the 9th.

The second game will be held today in the same scenario at 8:15 pm (local time).
