On the first anniversary of the crisis that has affected Syria due to armed violence and terror, in addition to foreign reprisals, hundreds of thousands of Syrians across the country joined the March for Peace on Thursday.Organized by youth, students, social and political organizations, Syrians of different ages, religious beliefs and criteria came on Thursday to squares and streets of major cities and other towns to express their support for national unity and the reform that the government of President Bashar al-Assad is implementing.
According to authorities’ estimates, millions Syrians joined the Peace March.
The Umayyad square, with Mount Kassioun in the background, was the scene of a mass concentration in Damascus to express support for President al-Assad and condemn foreign interference and anti-Syria campaigns.
Syrian, Russian and Chinese flags, showing gratitude for the support from Moscow and Beijing in international forums, filled Umayyad Square with colors, while the crowd sang patriotic songs and chanted slogans of support for President Bashar al-Assad.
There were also marches and rallies in other places and neighborhoods of al-Zahra, al-Nuzha, al-Hadara and al-Sheirat in Homs.
Ahlam, a young teacher who said she was proud to be Syrian, told Prensa Latina that her country has already suffered enough, on the one hand, economic sanctions and political campaigns and the media, and on the other hand, terrorist violence by armed groups have affected all of us. (Taken from PL)
