Women from the central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus welcomed the International Women’s Day with the satisfaction of accounting for the 47,5% of the state civilian labour force in the territory.
Sources from the local Cuban Women Federation (FMC) offices told Escambray that some 199 700 above-fourteen-year-old women live in this region, most of whom are members of the organization.
Women have been somewhat favoured in the reorganization process underway in the country, while many have preferred to work on their own, added the sources. According to last year’s reports, over 2 000 women are self-employed in Sancti Spiritus.
Sancti Spiritus women involved in everyday life
Females are majority both in the educational and health areas, while their presence is also significant in the science sector.
Also worth noting are the several FMC ran training programs in which women get the necessary skills to work as hairdressers, dressmakers and drivers, among other useful jobs.
