Sancti Spiritus Reaffirms Support to the Revolution on May Day (+photos)

Thousand people from Sancti Spiritus, central Cuba, reaffirmed this 1st of May their unconditional support to the Revolution when attending an over-two-hour parade in front of the Serafin Sanchez Valdivia Revolution Square.

After the opening speech delivered by the General Secretary of the Federation of Cuban Workers (CTC) in this territory Domingo Gutierrez Gutierrez, workers from the 18 local trade unions paraded along the city’s main avenues to commemorate May Day and the 73rd anniversary of the CTC.

The march was led by a group of outstanding local juveniles as a way to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Youth Communist League (UJC).  The 18 trade unions march is headed by the sugar workers, the island’s first to accomplish the sugar production plan this year.

Lots of Cuban flags were raised and huge posters exhibited patriotic messages and mottos on the Cuban Revolution, the Party and the Cuban Five.

The march was presided over by Olga Lidia Tapia Iglesias, member of the secretariat of the Cuban Communist Party Central Committee, First Secretary of the Party in Sancti Spiritus José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, President of the Provincial Assembly of the People’s Power Teresita Romero and Che Guevara’s daughter Dr. Aleida Guevara March, who was specially invited to the 1st of May celebration.
