Cuba President Raul Castro Honors Ernesto Guevara in Santa Clara
With the presence of Amy General Raúl Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Councils of State and Ministers, the main act commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Che and his compañeros took place at the mausoleum erected in his honor in Santa Clara.
Over 60,000 residents from Villa Clara, representing the entire Cuban population, gathered at Ernesto Che Guevara Square to show their love for the Heroic Guerilla.
Cuban and July 26 flags adorned the setting of the political-cultural act, during which 50 elementary school children received their blue kerchiefs identifying them as Pioneros Moncadistas, an action which will be repeated across the country.
Prior to the ceremony other activities were held in the province on October 7, including a cultural gala led by local artists.
