From the entrance in Curva de Alfredo to the very end, the Ancon Peninsula in Trinidad, is favored by a Coastal Management Program designed to protect an area of ​​almost 11 kilometers, considered one of the best sandy fringes of the Cuban south coast.

 

The Ancon peninsula, as well as being Sancti Spiritus preferred coast, is home to hotels Costasur, BrisasTrinidad del Mar, and Ancon, three of the main facilities of the tourist destination of the city declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Bearing that in mind, a group of specialists rectored by the Government in Trinidad and integrated by organizations such as Physical Planning, the Ministries of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), Construction (MICONS) and Transport (MITRANS), along with the community , backtrack the shoreline on plans and actions, a coastal of high natural ecological significance, because in addition to its economic, social and environmental importance, it is the mainstay of the tourism activity that distinguishes the enclave.

According to statements given by Eduardo Perez Sabate, vice chairman of the Administration Council in charge of such matters in Sancti Spiritus southern municipality, works began in 2010 and should conclude in 2014. “This is a continuous, dynamic and organizational process, that unites the community in the economic development and conservation of natural resources and it is also a way of contributing to the environmental education and training of investors, builders, tourism workers, policy makers and the general public on issues related to the operation, exploitation and protection of the area.

In addition to this, said Perez Sabate,we have its ecological significance, since in the eastern portion of the peninsula, from the Ancon Hotel to Punta Casilda, there is an area that is proposed as Protected because it presents important flora values, including a lush red and black mangroves, salt marshes and meadows also with a floristic composition of peculiar characteristics that stand out among the numerous endemic species.

Among the first actions to be undertaken, he said, are the recovery of the stretch of the beach, the dunes rescue and the sanitation of the place from invasive plants, especially marabou. Today, foresters seek to protect an ecosystem of predators that will enrich the vegetation with species that do not harm the environment, such as sea grapes, nursery, and coast  coconut, among others.

When the summer stage is done, said the official, constructive actions are to be undertaken to define each area of ​​the coast while some obstacles present on the beachfront will be demolished as they hinder the smooth development and running of this strip of coast beside the Caribbean Sea.
