The Cuban government announced it will use its budget to cover 50 percent of the cost of the construction materials needed for the victims of hurricane Matthew to repair their houses or build new ones in case of total destruction
Following the experiences of the recovery works after Hurricane Sandy hit the island in 2012, the Municipal Defense Councils asses the damages caused by the storm and approve the resources to be given to solve the problems.
The victims can apply for bank credits, to be granted with less interest rates and longer periods of payment. In the case of total destruction of houses and roofs, the government will assume the interests.
People with meager resources -which won’t be enough to have access to bank credits- have the right to apply for subsidies or total or partial coverage by the government.
