The message sent by His Holiness was welcomed by local churchgoers.
“Pope Francis greets with affection the authorities and residents of the city of Sancti Spiritus, on occasion of the 500th anniversary of its foundation”. Thus begins the beatitude message sent by the Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church to local faithfuls, whom he urges to honor ancient history with the commitment to incarnate the present and to transmit to future generations the ideals which have been source of inspiration and hope.
In his statement, which was made public this week at the local Major Parish Church, the Argentinean Holy Father hopes that all of Sancti Spiritus residents make progress in “their efforts to be more just and supportive every day”.
With Pope Francis’s good wishes message, sent via his State Secretary, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and read during the homily led by Monsignor Arnaldo Isaac Fernández Berroa, the Catholic Church also remembers its five centuries permanence in the region.
The message sent by His Holiness was welcomed by local churchgoers, amid the festivities for the half-millennium of the foundation of the so-called fourth village, the only one in Cuba which holds a name in Latin.
