The Latin American dignity is our shield, and strength is unity, the vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, said in this capital.
The integration ensures the development but social organizations should be the protagonists, Machado Ventura said during the meeting with social movements at the Voltaire Paladins Polo Coliseum, where the 12th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) was closed.
Machado Ventura reaffirmed Cuba’s total support to Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, and Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro, for their intransigent stance against the empire that constantly threatens and attacks.
About 10,000 people marched on Tuesday through the streets of Guayaquil, in support of the Latin American integration.
Some 200 representatives of those groups, who gathered here prior to that international event, gave a statement to the ALBA presidents.
This manifesto seeks to affirm the proposal of the ALBA, Latin America and the Caribbean to be an endogenous territory, not only from the economic but also political, cultural, and social point of view.
On the other hand, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro stated that the final declaration of the Social Movements Summit is in spiritual, ideological, and political harmony, with the statement discussed and approved by the ALBA presidents.
Heads of State and delegations from the governments of Venezuela, Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Dominica, Ecuador, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Lucia, which are state members, attended the ALBA Summit.
Representatives of Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Suriname, Guyana and Haiti participated as special guests.
This summit showed the ALBA as a strategic political alternative of Latin American and Caribbean integration, inclusive and participatory unity, focused on respect for human dignity and economic development in the right to self-determination of peoples and the defense of sovereignties.
