Residents of Santiago de Cuba will honor Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Mariana Grajales, José Martí, and Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro
On the occasion of the 149th anniversary of the launch of the War of Independence at the Demajagua sugar mill, this October 10, a political act and military ceremony of internment of the remains of independence heroes Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and Mariana Grajales will take place at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba, from 7.00 am.
In order that the Cuban people and international visitors may pay tribute to both of these independence figures, at the same time as National Hero José Martí, and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro Ruz, both the funerary monument to Céspedes, and the tomb of Mariana, were carefully relocated to the central area of the cemetery.
The act and military ceremony, which will see the attendance of more than 350 guests from the eastern provinces and Camagüey, will be broadcast live on television channels Cubavision and Cubavisión International, and on Radio Rebelde and Radio Habana Cuba.
From 9.00 am, the people of Santiago, representing all of Cuba, will pay tribute to Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, Mariana Grajales, José Martí, and Comandante en Jefe Fidel Castro, on this important historical date.
