Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the agreement reached between the government of Colombia and the National Liberation Army (ELN)

The agreement will allow the start of public negotiations between the government and the ELN. This represents a new, important step towards peace in Colombia, said the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Colombian Government and the ELN asked Cuba (along with other countries of the region and Norway) to act as an international observer.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Cuba’s strong commitment to contribute in every way possible to the achievement of a final agreement between the government of Colombia and the ELN.

Cuba has also contributed to the peace process, taking place in Havana, between the Colombian Government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People’s Army.

The peace talks aim to end the conflict in Columbia and to construct a stable and lasting peace, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
