Army General Raul Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and president of the Councils of State and Ministers, closed this Saturday the 20th Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Federation, after the 1 200 delegates concluded the three-day meeting.

During the final session, started at 3:00P.M., it was announced that the National Council of the workers’ organization agreed to name Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, member of the Central Committee, as new general secretary of the union.

Cuban Workers’ Congress Ends with Plenary Debates

The meeting was also presided over by José Ramón Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Party, and by Miguel Díaz-Canel, member of the Political Bureau, and first vice-president of the Councils of State and Ministers.  Also present were other members of the Political Bureau, the Central Committee Secretariat, the Council of State and Ministers, as well as trade union leaders, among other guests.
