Cuba and the Vatican maintain cordial relations of mutual respect and make progress in the development and deepening of these ties, said Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel.

In statements to Prensa Latina, Diaz-Canel said that both parties agree in many respects, especially in social issues affecting the world.

The head of the Cuban delegation to the enthronement ceremony of Pope Francis, brought a message of congratulations from President Raul Castro, the Cuban government and people in wishing him success during his pontificate.

More than 130 foreign delegations attended the inauguration Mass of the Holy Father, which was held in St. Peter’s Basilica.
