Cuba Rejects USA and Allies Intention to Attack Syria

Cuba expressed its opposition to an attack on Syria.”

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) states that “an aggression against Syria would cause serious consequences for the troubled region of the Middle East, it would be a flagrant violation of the UN Charter principles and international law, and would increase the dangers for international peace and security.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs describes as “alarming the recent statements by the U.S. government and many NATO allies urging a military action in Syria, ignoring the efforts by some States to reach a political solution to the conflict that Arab nation bleeds.”

It is necessary to remember that those who call today for a military action against Syria are the same who launched bloody wars without a mandate by the U.N. Security Council, the entity warns.

About this issue, the text points out that these attacks were committed “under the deliberate lie of the existence of weapons of mass destruction or with the pretext of protecting civilians, which caused substantial deaths of innocent people including children, to which they describe as collateral damages.”

The MINREX note says the call to attack Syria occurs “precisely when the government has authorized the UN Research Mission on the alleged use of chemical weapons in that country and this has begun work on the ground.”

The document states that the island condemns the use of chemical weapons and others of mass destruction, and it is firmly committed to the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction, and the strict compliance with its provisions.

After stating that the available information on the crisis in Syria is “fragmented, imprecise and subject to frequent handling,” it says that an attack on that country would have serious consequences for the Middle East, it would violate the UN Charter principles and the International Law, and would increase the dangers for international peace and security.
