Popular Exercise Meteoro 2012 Underway in Cuba

According to the press, the drill scheduled for Satuday includes the actions by directive boards to prevent and face the impact of hurricanes, droughts, forest fires, epidemies and other phenomena.Cuban authorities on Friday give the final touches to the 26th edition of Meteoro-2012 exercise on the prevention and reduction of disasters, in the presence of foreign experts interested in the experience in those issues.

According to the press, the drill scheduled for Satuday includes the actions by directive boards to prevent and face the impact of hurricanes, droughts, forest fires, epidemies and other phenomena.

On Sunday, Meteoro 2012 will be focused on practical activities to improve the preparedness of the peope in the protection of lives and goods, as of territorial threats.

Actions will take into account particular risks in each place and sector of the economy, for example, evacuations in zones prone to sea penetration or quakes, Colonel Miguel Angel Puig, head of the Civil Defense Chief of Staff Operations Department, told reporters.

According to Puig, the drill will have the presence of experts from many countries who will take experiences from the national measures to reduce disasters, internationally recognized due to its effectiveness to preserve human lives.

Foreign experts who will attend the Meteoro 2012 drill are participating in a regional workshop on disasters reduction as of today in this capital, sponsored by the Cuban Civil Defense.
