Cuba’s Fourth Village Celebrated Foundation Anniversary (+photos)

Adriana and Rosa Aurora handed over two guayabera shirts from their husbands, both of which will be part of the collection to be exhibited, from today on, in the Casa de la Guayabera (House of the Guayabera), opened this Monday at the former Quinta Santa Elena restaurant.

A solemn session of the Municipal Assembly of the People’s Power in Sancti Spiritus, was held this Monday to mark the 498 foundation anniversary of the village. The ceremony was attended by Adriana Pérez O’Connor and Rosa Aurora Freijanes, the wives of two of the Cuban Five antiterrorists held in US prisons, Gerardo Hernandez and Fernando Gonzalez, respectively.

In the ceremony -also attended by Homero Acosta, secretary of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba; José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, first secretary of the Party in the territory; and Teresita Romero Rodríguez, president of the Provincial Assembly of the People’s Power- tribute was paid to Gerardo Hernandez, who coincidently turns 47 this June 4th.

When addressing the attendees to the celebration, Yoel Gallardo, top governmental leader in Sancti Spiritus, highlighted what has been so far done since the program, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the village, was announced last year.

The occasion was opportune to present the Parranda Tipica Espirituana band with the city’s coat of arms, to acknowledge its several decade contribution to local culture.
