Central Bank of Cuba made the use of Russian MIR cards official

The Central Bank of Cuba (BCC) confirmed today the use of Russian MIR cards as a means of payment throughout the national network of ATMs and Point of Sale Terminals (POS).

Through its official website, the institution reported that the decision was made official this Tuesday during a meeting between representatives of the Russian National Card Payment System (NSPK), the BCC, Servicios de Pagos Red S.A and FINCIMEX.

The technological deployment on a national scale will be implemented gradually in the POS, first of all in the tourist centers. According to those attending the meeting, the service will start in the ATM network from December 2022.

The meeting was attended by the executive director and the head of the International Business Department of NSPK, Vladimir Komlev and Evgeniya Egorenkova, respectively.

The Cuban side was represented by Vice President Alberto Javier Quiñones and General Director of Operations and Payment Systems Julio Antonio Pérez.

Greicher La Nuez Gambino, general director of the non-banking financial institution Servicios de Pago Red S.A, and Yamil Hernández, general manager of FINCIMEX, also participated.
