Cuba’s animation studios implement inclusive strategies

According to the Cubacine website, Animados ICAIC implemented the use of a sign language interpreter in a selection of productions aimed at children and young audiences with hearing difficulties, so that they can enjoy them without discrimination.

This way, the institution blurs communication barriers and establishes a coherent connection between these people and the rest of society, as they will be able to enjoy audiovisual works such as Cuentos de Ñañasere, by Jose Martin Diaz; Anita y Tareco, by Reinier Escalona and Yanet Hidalgo; and Pubertad, by Ernesto Piña, among others.

Project Coordinator Nilza Gonzalez pointed out that this idea is the result of several actions developed over the years, such as the screening of subtitled films with sign language interpreters, as well as the Tocando La Luz initiative, aimed at promoting the appreciation of cinema by visually impaired people.

According to the professor, the conception of the project was influenced by some international productions and studies on the consumption of audiovisuals by students, which has shown the importance of creating spaces like this one, Cubacine reported.
