Cuban leader Raul Castro and President Miguel Diaz-Canel presided over today the mass popular mobilization on International Workers’ Day at Havana’s Revolution Square
The leaders were accompanied in the tribune at the foot of the monument to National Hero Jose Marti by other top officials from the government and the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), as well as personages, intellectuals, members of the diplomatic corps, trade union leaders and activists from several countries.
Hundreds of thousands of people paraded in Havana at Revolution Square and millions did the same nationwide in all 15 Cuban provinces under the slogan ‘Unity, Commitment and Victory’, which was launched by the Cuban Workers’ Confederation (CTC) for its 21st Congress.
In recent statements, CTC General Secretary Ulises Guilarte noted that today’s popular mobilization is a show of support for the Revolution, the new leadership of the country and the historic generation that has led the social justice project for decades since January 1, 1959.
On April 19, Diaz-Canel took office as the president of the Councils of State and of Ministers, as part of a process to relieve the generations of revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro (1926-2016) and Raul Castro.
