The work of Vilma Espín Guillois, founding president of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC, in Spanish) was evoked in Sancti Spíritus on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of that mass organization this Wednesday.

The more than 169 000 members of that body in this central Cuban province have dedicated several days to honor the Heroine of the Republic of Cuba, who died on June 18, 2007.

Cuban Women, a Revolution within the Revolution

According to Galia Vila Hernández, a member of the Provincial Secretariat of the FMC in this territory, during those days meetings were held with young women who keep Vilma’s legacy alive and are committed to follow her example. Likewise, local women have been involved in different voluntary work activities such as the sowing of sugar cane and sanitation campaigns in the communities.

The homage will have its culmination this August 23rd with an exchange between former and current FMC leaders, who will also pay tribute to Isabel Maria de Valdivia, an outstanding participant in the struggles for the independence of Cuba in the XIX century.
