The Costa Rican government adopted the decision in order use of all the educational centers during the municipal elections on February 7 and to prepare the classrooms for the new school year starting February 9
The Costa Rican Government is transferring several Cuban migrants that are accommodated in educational buildings to other places, because they will use them as voting centers in the coming municipal elections, official sources reported.
According to the National Emergency Commission President Ivan Brenes, they began to leave the shelters that were set in schools in the border localities Corredores and Sarchi, and have planned to continue with the operation in Valverde Vega, Quepos, Parrita and La Cruz.
We are using municipal halls and Christian churches that have open their doors for us to use their spaces, the official told the newspaper Prensa Libre.
He asserted that the Caribbean people would go by bus to the new shelters and wait there for their departure to other Central American countries to continue their route to the United States.
Costa Rica adopted those measures to guarantee the use of all the educational centers during the municipal elections on February 7 and then to prepare the classrooms for the new school year, which begins on February 9.
Meanwhile, the General Directorate of Migrations is working to shape the groups of Cubans that will resume their trip to the United States on February 4, after more than two months stranded on Costa Rican soil.
That entity said in a communique that it would give priority to the families with at least one minor, but they should have the money to pay for the trip.
The trip costs up to $750 USD, because it includes transportation, food, arrival and departure taxes in each country, plus medical insurance.
