Army General Raul Castro, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party and president of the councils of State and Ministers, sent greetings to the Organization of Solidarity with the Peoples of Asia, Africa and Latin America (OSPAAAL) on the occasion of its 50 anniversary.

In such significant date receive my congratulations for the permanent commitment to unity and solidarity among the progressive forces of the third
world, Raul stressed in the message read by Jose Ramon Balaguer, member of
the Secretariat of the CC of the PCC in the meeting held to mark the date.

With the Solidarity Hall of the Habana Libre Hotel as its venue, the same
place in which the First Tri-continental Conference was held on January
3-14, 1966, the celebration was propitious to send an acknowledgment to the
historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, and to the Cuban president.

Balaguer and Rogelio Sierra, Deputy Foreign Minister, received from
OSPAAL two paintings illustrating the participation of both personalities in
that meeting, which brought together the historic leaders of the
revolutionary and national liberation movements of that period.

In the presence of representatives of 40 countries, directors, founders
and editors of the Tri-continental magazine, Balaguer recalled the
foundational context of that organization, which emerged at the initiative
of Fidel.

The meeting was also attended by Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban
Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, and Fernando Gonzalez, Hero of the
Republic of Cuba.
