Peru President Ollanta Humala visit to Cuba confirmed the good level of relations of friendship and cooperation between the two Latin American nations
Yesterday, the Peruvian president held official talks with his counterpart Raúl Castro, after paying tribute to the National Hero José Martí at the memorial to his memory, at the Revolution Square.
In the meeting, both presidents exchanged views on the state of bilateral relations and agreed on the mutual desire to further strengthen the historical ties between Cuba and Peru.
Also, they discussed regional and international current issues.
Humala stressed the importance of expanding bilateral trade and informed about the future arrival to the island of a delegation of businessmen from his country to explore business opportunities.
He expressed the relevance of deepening cooperation in areas such as medicine, education and sport.
In addition, Humala described as positive the announcement of the visit of US President Barack Obama to Cuba, scheduled for next March 21 and 22, and said it will be a historic moment for this bilateral relation.
He declared to favor the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation for more than half a century.
This is the second time that Humala travels to Cuba as Head of State; he previously participated in the Second Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), held in Havana in January 2014.
Shortly before assuming the presidency of his country on July 28, 2011, he included the Caribbean island as part of a regional tour. In that occasion, he met with Cuban President Raúl Castro for the first time.
