International Nanotechnology Seminar Starts in Cuba

Conceived as a space for academic debate and scientific exchange, the Fifth International Seminar of Nanosciences and Nanotechnology begins today at the Conference Center in Havana.

Honorary Doctorate in Nuclear Science and scientific advisor of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart stated that a greater attendance is expected compared with the previous edition, held in 2012, when more than 300 specialists from 22 countries participated.

On this first working day, pre-congress courses will be held, among them “Introduction to Advanced Catheter Methods for Biology and Medicine,” by Professor Ricardo Garcia, of Spain.

As part of those activities, participants will also discuss on Nanoscopy, Magnetic Nanoparticles applied to Medicine, and Nanosafety.

Nanotechnology is dedicated to the study, design, handling, and application of the matter at the atomic, molecular and supra-molecular scale.

The characteristics and main trends of those topics in the contemporary world, will be debated in the Havana event, to be run until Sept. 18. Organized by the Center for Advanced Study in Cuba (CEAC) and the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, this fifth seminar is designed for professionals engaged in research, development, innovation and teaching.

The First International Seminar on Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies was held in Havana in 2007.
