It might be that the 5 148 female members of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) in this territory are not enough evidence of their role. It would be better to point out that 47% of them are directly involved in the productive field both as landowners and usufructuaries.

According to local ANAP official Eidy Díaz Fernández, this organization has doubled the amount of female associates in the last five years, a fact that is in line with the call made in the last farmers’ congress. It’s been quite a while since farm women don’t exclusively dedicate themselves to raising the children and cooking the meals.

On occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, celebrated this October 15th, we must also mention that there are 1 243 female usufrutuaries linked to production, mostly in livestock and cultivation tasks, added Eidy Díaz. She also highlighted the role of the 369 women who have positions at different levels of the organization, and also in the boards of cooperatives.
