The Ministry of Heritage and Culture of Ecuador confirmed that at least 23 local authors will attend the 23rd International Book Fair of Havana (FIL), during which Ecuador is a guest of honor.
These writers include Raul Serrano, Gabriela Aleman, Javier Vásconez, Gabriel Paz, Raúl Pérez Torres, Miguel Antonio Chávez, Abdón Ubidia, Alfredo Noriega, Aleyda Quevedo, Leonor Bravo, Miguel Donoso Pareja, Juan Secaira and Justino Cornejo, entre otros, according to El Telégrafo newspaper.
Regarding their expectations, writer Raul Serrano said to be “very pleased because Cuba’s FIL is an event of reference in Latin America of what these processes of cultural exchange mean.”
Serrano is bringing to Havana his book “Antologia de Ensayos Ecuatorianos (An Antology of Ecuadorian Essays) by Cuban publishing house Arte y Literatura.
Meanwhile, Raul Perez Torres, who is president of the Ecuadorian Culture House (CCE), highlighted the possibility to attend the literary feast as special guest of Casa de las Americas.
He announced that he will be launching a Cuban edition of Los Hijos del Bolero (The Bolero Children) and other editions by some authors granted prizes by Casa de las Americas, as part of an agreement with the CCE.
According to El Telegrafo, President Rafael Correa is expected to attend the opening of the fair and give a lecture about Good Living in Ecuador.
This will be a bright opportunity to launch Correa’s book “Ecuador: De Banana Republica a la No Republica (Ecuador: From Banana Republic to No Republic At All), published in 2010, adds the report.
The International Book Fair of Havana will be dedicated to Cuban writer Nersys Felipe, Literatura Prize laureate 2011, historian Rolando Rodriguez, Prize in Social Sciences 2008, and writer Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda in her 200th birthday anniversary.
