The Cuban Workers Confederation (CTC) convened today its more than three million members and people in general to celebrate May Day as an example of unity and support for socialism.
“Let’s make this May Day a fair tribute and recognition to the daily work of our workers and our tribute for our free, independent, and dignified Cuba, for which thousands of Cubans have offered their lives,” says the call released in the press.
According to the CTC, these celebrations, under the slogan “United for a prosperous and sustainable socialism,” will be a good opportunity for the development of political, patriotic, productive, cultural and recreational activities to mobilize workers.
The CTC states that as usual, workers and trade unionists from other countries have been invited.
“Convinced that the time is opportune for exchange, solidarity and reinforces the identification of common goals, these celebrations helps to strengthen the ties of friendship and solidarity,” the document said.
The CTC particularly highlights the international support from workers in many parts of the world in the struggle against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States to the island for more than 50 years, and the return of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in that northern nation.
Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, universally known as the Five, were detained in 1998 for monitoring violent groups who from Miami organized, financed and executed actions against Cuba.
