Ukrainian Musicians Demand Freedom for the Cuban Five

Renowned Ukrainian musicians demanded on Tuesday the release of the five Cubans unjustly held by U.S. government of false accusations of espionage. During a solidarity concert held in Kiev´s Museum of Medicine, several music groups and soloists from the Eastern European country expressed their support for the cause of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez

Renowned Ukrainian musicians demanded on Tuesday the release of the five Cubans unjustly held by U.S. government of false accusations of espionage.

During a solidarity concert held in Kiev´s Museum of Medicine, several music groups and soloists from the Eastern European country expressed their support for the cause of Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino.

Also at the event was presented a poetry book by Antonio Guerrero, and participants recalled significant events that marked the history of friendship between the peoples of Ukraine and Cuba.

Meanwhile, the movement of solidarity with Cuba in Brazil has grew stronger after the creation of a Brazil-Cuba Friendship Committee in the state of Goiás.

The Cuban Five, as they are known internationally, were jailed in September 1998 for reporting on violent schemes by far-right anti-Cuban groups based in Miami. They were subsequently sentenced to long prison terms up to life in a judicial process plagued with irregularities, as top international organizations have repeatedly acknowledge. (Taken from RHC)
