As part of the terrorist tactic to assassinate prominent figures in Syrian society, an armed group shot boxing champion Ghiath Tayfour to death in the northwestern city of Aleppo, the news agency SANA reported.The source added that Tayfour was driving his car on a street near the University of Aleppo when he was riddled with bullets by armed individuals. He died on the spot of five gunshot wounds in the head.
Tayfour, born in 1969 in Aleppo, became famous in Syrian boxing after winning the national championship from 1984 to 1998. He also won several gold medals and other awards in Arab championships and other international tournaments, according to SANA.
The source added that over the past few months, armed gangs have assassinated prominent Syrian professionals, including physicians, academics, engineers, university professors, journalists and retired army officers. (Taken from PL)
