Demonstrations of support and solidarity with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who is in Cuba to undergo a new surgery, are growing throughout Latin America.
The Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) in El Salvador has expressed today its good wishes for a speedy recovery of the Venezuelan president.
We express our solidarity with President Chavez, with the people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, the party said in a release from its Political Commission. Salvador Sanchez Ceren, Vice President and presidential candidate of the FMLN, also expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery of Chavez, to whom he confirmed his solidarity.
On the other hand, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega delivered positive remarks about the health of his Venezuelan peer, who will undergo a surgery to remove malignant cells that were detected in the same area where a tumor was treated in June 2011, and for the preservation of the achievements towards the Latin American unity.
In Ecuador, solidarity messages hit the headlines of the major newspapers, including The Telegraph, devoting its front page to the subject for a second consecutive day and publishing headlines such as “Rafael Correa travels to Cuba to accompany the Bolivarian leader in a new surgery,” “Hugo Chavez faces one of the toughest tests of his life,” “Correa saw Chavez with great courage.”
The Andes news agency is publishing on its website “the entire Latin America supports Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, in hours just prior to the surgery,” adding a summary of greeting messages sent to him by many dignitaries of the region .
Meanwhile, from Venezuela, socialist legislator Fernando Soto Rojas stated that there is an understanding in the country regarding the leadership of the head of state and the political and historical responsibility the people are experiencing at this point in time in the nation.
“Here there will be no power vacuum and traumas of the past will not be repeated, because I think there is an understanding of leadership and strength underpinning the Bolivarian Revolution,” the legislator said, interviewed by the public television.
