UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon held talks on Thursday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, on the situation in Syria and the importance of ensuring access to humanitarian aid to this country.The interview took place on Thursday in Vienna, reported in New York the UN spokesman, Eduardo del Buey.
He said that Ban Ki-moon told the Russian minister the urgent need to end the violence in Syria and establishing channels for humanitarian assistance while the search for political solution to the conflict continues.
“The Secretary-General said the UN considers all options for any eventual decision of the Member States regarding these matters in Syria,” the spokesman said.
Russia and China stopped 10 days ago an attempt by Western powers that sought to gain the support of the Security Council to demand the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
On Thursday, the UN General Assembly debates a draft resolution promoted by the United States, France, Britain and a group of Arab states that blames the authorities in Damascus for the crisis. (Taken from PL).
