Once symptoms appeared, patients were admitted, one in the “Antonio Luaces Iraola” Provincial Hospital of Ciego de Avila and two at the Pedro Kouri Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), where blood samples were taken for study.

On July 12, IPK’s laboratory reported that tests were positive for Zika virus.
