More than 6 million Bolivians are expected to cast their vote at polling stations across the country to elect almost 5,000 departmental and municipal authorities.

Bolivian President Evo Morales voted early today at a local polling station where he told reporters, “From this point forward, I encourage everyone to participate in these elections. You know that voting is your right but most importantly we must show that Bolivia is democratic country.”

President of Bolivia’s Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) Wilma Velasco issued similar sentiments on Sunday encouraging all Bolivian’s to exercise their right to vote stating that it was an essential part of the democratic process. ”

Democracy is only possible when everyone can exercise their political right through free and sovereign decisions, this is a way to transform our society,” Velasco stated during Sunday’s official inaugural electoral ceremony.
