Criteria around the challenges and achievements of the spinal surgery treatment were the focus of discussions among specialists who attended the first pre-congress course carried out this Tuesday morning at Ancon Hotel, in Trinidad, Sancti Spiritus.

Dr. Horacio Tabares Neyra’s presentation on lumbar spondylosis was one of the attractions of the first theoretical session. This disease is an age-related continuous degenerative disorder of the spinal column, which gains importance in countries like Cuba, where high longevity rates are reported.

Pre-congress courses will continue this Wednesday, with research papers on Regenerative Medicine, a field in which this territory outstands.

According to Danni Pérez Castillo, in charge of investigations and teaching affairs of the Provincial Group of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Sancti Spiritus delegates to this congress will present the results attained with stem cell in the treatment of osteomioarticular diseases, among other local approaches.

This Wednesday, a commercial exhibition will be  inaugurated in order to foster links between the participant countries, while a huge external fixator, symbol of the event and of orthopaedics speciality in Cuba, will be placed outside Ancon Hotel.
