Sancti Spiritus Veitia Obtains First World Medal

The bronze obtained in a world event is the medal with most value conquered by the boxer from Fomento, in Sancti Spiritus. Yosbany Veitia‘s path to gold was truncated again as he was defeated in the semifinals of the 12th World Boxing Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Despite the loss, 

The bronze obtained in a world event is the medal with most value conquered by the boxer from Fomento, in Sancti Spiritus.

Yosbany Veitia‘s path to gold was truncated again as he was defeated in the semifinals of the 12th World Boxing Championship held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Despite the loss,  Veitia’s bronze became his first world medal in senior boxing championships where he had participated twice. The 2011 version allowed him to compete in London Olympic Games.

His expectations of becoming king in the 49kg division were demolished by local fighter Birzhan Zhakypov who won by a 3-o decision (30-27, 30,27, 30-27). According to the digital site Jit Veitia’s opponent took advantage of their exchanges and of his height.

Cuba got four tickets to the finals with Yasniel Toledo, Lazaro Alvarez, Arisnoidys Despaigne and Julio Cesar La Cruz.
