President of Sri Lanka Considers Visit to Cuba Fruitful

Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka described as fruitful his official visit to Cuba that concluded this Tuesday. Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka described as fruitful his official visit to Cuba that concluded this Tuesday. During his visit the Sri Lankan head of state met with Cuban authorities, and with the relatives of the Cuban Five.

At the Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport, Rajapaksa highlighted his meeting with his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro, when they discussed the bilateral relations and other matters of international interest.

”There is tight relationship with Cuba, and this visit contributed to improve our bond”, said Rajapaksa before boarding the plane that would take him to the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development.

During his visit the Sri Lankan head of state met with other Cuban authorities, and with the relatives of the five Cuban antiterrorists serving unjust sentences in the United States.

Marcos Rodriguez, Cuba’s foreign deputy minister, saw off Rajapaksa at the airport.
