Sancti Spiritus -Cuba central province- strives to improve housing conditions by means of a program which has already benefited over 1 200 houses concerning restoration and rehabilitation.

The painting and maintenance of buildings, along with the cleaning of septic tanks and the fixing of floors, are the main activities carried out despite of the lack of resources in the territory.

Isley Pérez León, head of Sancti Spiritus housing system, said to Escambray that this program has been highly welcomed mainly because of the waterproofing works, the repairment of the water pipes in a large number of apartments and the comprehensive rehabilitation of buildings and houses.

According to Pérez León, actions have been prioritized aimed at improving the living conditions of the nearly 800 people who live in tenement houses througout the territory. Over 30 per cent of the homes here are reported in regular or bad conditions.
