Cuban Silinda Morales won a meritorious bronze medal on the third day of the IAAF U20 World Championships running in
Tampere, Finland, until next Sunday.

Morales, gold medalist last year in the U18 universal contest with stage in Nairobi, Kenya, ranked third this time in the women´s discus throw, although she raised her personal best to 55.37 meters.

The event was won by Moldovan Alexandra Emilianov (57.89), who was escorted by the local Helena Leveelahti (56.80), according to IAAF official website.

Another athlete from the Caribbean island, heptathlonist Adriana Rodriguez, had an amazing performance yesterday and appears second after four events with 3,634 points, only 56 units behind the leader British Niamh Emerson (3,690); while Swiss Sara Lagger (3,609) ranks third.

Kenya remains leader in the standings, now with three gold and one bronze medals, followed by Japan and Jamaica, both with two crowns, one silver and one bronze medal.

Cuba so far appears 14th with the silver medal conquered last Wednesday by long jumper Maikel Vidal and Morales’ bronze medal, according to the IAAF official website.
