Esperanza Castro Quintero, president of the organization in the territory, told ACN that such an amount is the result of more than 300 innovations performed by local ANIR members, who will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of the association next October.

That contribution has mainly supported the production of foodstuffs, the substitution of imports, and the saving of energy, added Castro Quintero.

The ANIR was first designed to stimulate the initiative of workers in the search for solutions to economic and social problems, as well as for the defense of the country. Its background dates back to the beginning of 1959, when there was an exodus of technicians encouraged by the U.S.A., and there was a shortage of spare parts in the island.

In adherence to an agreement of the XIII Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Union, the ANIR was founded on October 8th, 1976 and currently groups over 200 thousand members nationwide.
