Walking in the Rain on May Day
Once gathered in their respective concentration sites, the workers of the different local trade unions started the proletariat parade, which by far differs from that of other latitudes.
Domingo Gutiérrez Gutiérrez, general secretary of the Workers’ Trade Union (CTC) in the territory, delivered the opening speech in which he highlighted the performance of the Cubans who attended the 7th Summit of the Americas in Panama, and praised the work of the health professionals who went to Africa to fight Ebola, among other relevant issues.
The rally was presided over by Adel Yzquierdo, member of the Political Bureau; Yuniaski Crespo, general secretary of the Union Communist League (UJC) in the country; Gisela Duardo, from the CTC’s National Secretariat; and José Ramón Monteagudo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee and first secretary of the Party in Sancti Spiritus. Local labour heroes of the Republic of Cuba, and outstanding sportspeople were also invited to share the presidency of the act.
Similar gatherings were called in the rest of the municipalities of this central Cuban province.
