Some 200 000 CUC (Cuban convertible peso) – seeks to safeguard from the passage of time and other demons, all the heritage assets of the Valley of the Sugar Mills, with the half millennium of the village right on the corner.
An ambitious project of the Curator’s Office of the city of Trinidad, a southern tourist destination in the Cuban central province of Sancti Spiritus, totaling more than 200 000 CUC (Cuban convertible peso) – seeks to safeguard from the passage of time and other demons, all the heritage assets of the Valley of the Sugar Mills, with the half millennium of the village right on the corner.
According to Norberto Carpio Calzada, general director of the Office, these rehabilitation actions aim at achieving the sustainability of the Valley as a tourist destination and improve the living conditions of the inhabitants of that area without ignoring the heritage rescue.
“One of the key activities was held at the old slave quarters, now used as housing, in order to harmonize them with the site where they are located, and the covers on most of the houses that are in different parts of the valley were changed, replacing the zinc roof – which was a solution to hurricanes – for tiles, and aluminum windows for wooden ones “.
According to the source itself, other major works have been undertaken in the Guaimaro home-farm, where the carpentry was repaired, including the cover; the facility was also consolidated and the murals were rescued.
