The Spanish Ballet of Cuba (BEC, in Spanish) will perform this week in Sancti Spiritus, as part of a national tour on occasion of its 25th foundation anniversary.

According to local sources, the renowned group, led by choreographer and dancer Eduardo Veitia, will give performances next October 19th, 20th, and 21st at the Teatro Principal (Principal Theater).

The company features a demanding repertoire, with ballets on plays such as Aquel brujo amor (That bewitching love), Carmen (Carmen), El Fantasma (The Phantom), La Habana Valdés (Havana Valdes), La Casa Alba (The Alba House), Frida (Frida), and Sonata y fandango (Sonata and Fandango). This last play granted Veitia the second prize in the First International Contest of Spanish and Flamenco Dances, carried out in 1992, in Madrid.

The ballet group was first created in April, 1987. One year after (March, 1988), it was named as Group of Spanish Dances of the Great Theater of Havana. The name Spanish Ballet of Cuba became official later on.

After the Sancti Spiritus shows, the company will perform in the Cuban territories of Holguin, Guantanamo, and Santiago de Cuba.
