Cuban athlete Leuris Pupo reached the gold medal in the 25m rapid fire pistol and equaled the world record, setting an unprecedented moment in the history of the sport in his nation.
Cuban shooter Leuris Pupo was crowned at the end of the rapid fire pistol at 25 meters, in the shooting competitions of the 2012 Olympic Games .
Leuris was ranked third in the final and in this instance he scored 34 points (3-5-5-5-4-4-4-4) in 8 series, a result which equals the world record for this modality.
This is the first shooting gold medal in Cuba’s Olympic history (and also the first of London 2012), after a trio of bronze metals in skeet and in 50m rifle 3 positions.
The silver medal went to Vijay Kumar from India, with 30 points, while the Chinese Ding Fen got the bronze with 27.
This result places Cuba momentarily 19th in the general standings
