Cuba Identifies Seventh Zika Virus Imported Case

The Ministry of Public Health of Cuba confirmed the 7th imported case of zika virus.  The patient is a local doctor, who arrived in the country from Brazil last March 22

According to a note released by the Ministry and published in the Sunday edition of Juventud Rebelde newspaper, the Cuban collaborator, specialist in General Medicine, presents no symptoms.

The 36-year-old patient is 28.2 weeks pregnant and was hospitalized shortly after her arrival in order to be observed.

At the hospital the doctors performed the Zika virus testing and then was sent to the ‘Pedro Kouri’ Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), where the diagnosis was confirmed on March 26.

The note reiterates that the patient is asymptomatic.

The second intensive phase against the mosquito Aedes aegypti will be started tomorrow, in order to prevent the spread of this and other infectious diseases such as dengue and chikungunya.
