Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, concludes today his official visit to Cuba, which he considered a very important step to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The leader carried out a busy agenda in line with the economic outlook his visit also had.

Speaking to reporters, he said that an agreement on the settlement of the debt was signed, which he estimated will be beneficial for both parties, as well as a special memorandum between enterprises of the two countries in the energy area.

He also expressed interest in the production of medicines in Cuba, while wishing that those products are exported to Europe.

He also wished success to Cuba regarding the changes that are made to upgrade the socio-economic model of the country and praised the tranquility of Cubans, as well as the solidarity that characterizes them, while noting that in his country the Cuban work in the health field performed in African nations is well known.

The Slovak leader and the Cuban President Raúl Castro held official talks yesterday.

During the cordial meeting both noted the positive state of bilateral relations and agreed on the potential for developing them. In addition, views were exchanged on other issues of common interest of the international agenda.

Cuba and Slovakia established diplomatic relations on January 1, 1993. Currently both countries maintain positive political links and the political-diplomatic relations are dynamic.

Since November 2013, the Inter-ministerial Political Consultations were established, a mechanism through which it monitors annually the main issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda.

Since 1996, the Slovak Republic votes in favor of the draft of the UN resolution against the US blockade on Cuba.

Between 2012 and 2015, several agreements on the economic, commercial, financial, educational, cultural, and sports sectors have been signed, and also among the radio and television institutes in both countries.
